MS-A2 VCF 9.0 Lab: Deploying VMware Private AI Services (PAIS)

In this blog post, we will now deploy an instance of VMware Private AI Services (PAIS) that will use the Vector Database that was provisioned earlier and the OIDC Client Application that we had also setup earlier using the Authentik Identity Provider (IdP).

Requirements:

  • VCF Automation (VCFA) Organization configured with Namespace
  • VMware Private AI Services (PAIS) deployed
  • Data Services Manager (DSM) configured with VCFA
  • Authentik IdP configured with OIDC Public Client Application
  • Harbor instance configured for AI model store

Automating VCF Operations Active Directory over LDAP Sync for VCF SSO

When VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Single-Sign On (SSO) is configured with the Active Directory over LDAP Identity Provider, VCF Operations will periodically synchronize the users and groups from your identity source.

By default, the sync frequency will default to once per week but it is user configurable to daily, hourly and even down to every 15 minutes, which is the lowest configurable frequency that is supported as shown in the screenshot below.


For users that require a one time sync, VCF Operation does provide a manual sync function that you can invoke under the configured identity source as demonstrated in the screenshot below.


Since the automated sync frequency ca not go below 15 minutes, the manual sync can be a viable workaround. If you need automate and schedule the manual sync, you may want automate it instead of manually invoking the function in the VCF Operations UI ...

Enhancement in VCF 9.0.1 to bypass vSAN ESA HCL & Host Commission 10GbE NIC Check

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0.1 is the first maintenance release for VCF 9.0, delivering a number of important fixes but also several exciting enhancements for lab deployments or running proof-of-concepts (PoC).

VCF 9.0 had already introduced a number of built-in capabilities and some neat “tricks” that makes it easier than ever to deploy a minimal VCF footprint, which you can read more about here.

However, there were still a couple of minor annoyances around vSAN ESA HCL or Host Commissioning pre-checks that could be improved to provide a better customer experience when deploying VCF for non-production usage. With feedback to VCF Engineering, I am pleased to share that these issues have now been addressed as part of VCF 9.0.1 release!
