Thank You - Tour de Cure 2024

09.29.2024 by William Lam // 1 Comment

Today, I participated in the Tour de Cure 2024 with Team VMware to support the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

For Team VMware, we raised a total of $24,080 for this amazing charity and a huge thanks to Paul Turner (VP of Product at VMware) for organizing the team!

I also wanted to take this opportunity and thank all of my supporters who donated and helped me reach my personal fundraising goal of $10,000! The final amount raised was $10, 575 and I found out at the event that I was the 5th highest fundraiser, which would not have been possible without all of your support, so THANK YOU! πŸ™

I ended up going for the 50K (32miles) since had a pretty severe ankle sprain a couple of months (before signing up for the event) and I was trying to avoid any climbing, but there was still a fair amount in the 50K, but I think I held up pretty well finishing in 2hrs πŸ˜…

Support my fundraising for Tour de Cure 2024

04.26.2024 by William Lam // Leave a Comment

It has been a LONG time since I have done any serious cycling, especially with two younger kids, I no longer have the luxury of riding for hours across the beautiful trails in the bay area. With that said, I have always had an itch to get back to some riding, mostly for recreational purposes, which is actually how my cycling journey began.

I recently came to learn that our VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) product leader, Paul Turner, is participating in an upcoming Northern California Tour de Cure to fundraise for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and a VMware team had also been setup. At first, I was just planning to donate to this awesome cause, but then I realize this might be a good reason for me to get back into "some" cycling and I have decided to join team VMware!

I was also reminded that 10 years ago, I did my first (and last) century ride (100 miles) in the 2014 Waves to Wine for the National MS Society and many of my colleagues and readers had supported me in that cause and together, we raised over $6,200!

For the 2024 Tour de Cure fundraiser, I have set a slightly loftier goal to raise for the American Diabetes Association and I would like to ask for your support in helping me reach my goal by donating to this cause:

  • DonateΒ πŸ‘‰ https://tour-diabetes.donordrive.com/participant/William-Lam
  • Goal πŸ’°: $10,000 USD

For those that donate, please check whether your employer provides any type of charitable matches, which would make your donations go even further! In fact, for any VMware employees who donate, I recently learned that we have a matching program up to $5K for 2024 and you an request a match going to the CyberGrants tile internally within our self-service application web portal to apply for a match for this or any other charitable donation you have made.

Thank you in advance to everyone who donates and if you are in the Northern Bay Area, feel free to join Team VMware and I will definitely be sporting my VMware Cycling Kit! 🚡

VMware 2021 Cycling Kit

08.23.2021 by William Lam // 12 Comments

It looks like while I was out on PTO, the VMware 2021 Cycling Kits (Men/Woman) went live on VMware's official Merchandise Store. I know many of you have been asking about prior VMware Cycling Kits and you now have the opportunity to ride in style with the latest VMware 2021 Cycling Kits.

UPDATE (08/25/21) - I just found out there was a small window for ordering the cycling kits which officially ended on 8/20 and was only extended for a few more days. Unfortunately, it looks like the vendor is no longer accepting any orders. Apologies for this as I had only found out after coming back from PTO earlier this week and was not aware of the deadline.

Note: I also saw that the description for the bibs, shorts and jersey all list "LIMITED TIME", so I imagine these will not be around forever and if you are interested, definitely get your order in as soon as you can
