First Look at VMware Cloud Foundation 9

09.03.2024 by William Lam // 6 Comments

The big news from last week at VMware Explore Las Vegas was the announcement of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9!

For those that attended the VCF Division Keynote 3 Transformations for the Smarter Way to Cloud, you got to hear more about VCF 9 directly from both Krish Prasad (General Manager of VCF Division) and Anu Kirpekar (Head of VCF Platform Engineering).

In addition, I also had the privilege of sharing with the audience several brand new VCF 9 demos showcasing the evolution of the VCF platform from a new simplified VCF Installer to the unified and integrated Operations and Automation experience to better support our end users whether that is for the infrastructure and operations team to the platform engineering and consumer teams.

If you were not able to attend the session or you were not at VMware Explore, you can watch the recording at https://www.vmware.com/explore/video-library/video/6360759075112, which is completely free and does not even require a login!

For a complete list of all the VMware Explore Las Vegas on-demand sessions, be sure to check out my summary repo HERE. For those interested, below are my other breakouts that are also now available to watch on-demand:

On-Demand session URLs for VMware Explore Las Vegas 2024

08.29.2024 by William Lam // Leave a Comment

VMware Explore Las Vegas 2024 officially wraps up today! I thoroughly enjoyed the event and had fantastic conversations with customers, partners and colleague!

The VMware Explore team has already been hard at work in getting all sessions published into the free on-demand catalog, which is available for or EVERYONE to watch, but also new this year, no logins are required! So get your learning on if you missed a session or was not able to attend VMware Explore

As of publishing this blog post, there are around ~18 sessions that have not been published, but I am sure those go up shortly (assuming presenters have approved).

Just like in past years, I have created a summarized list of all on-demand sessions for VMware Explore sessions including the direct link along with presentation links (assuming presenters approved), which you can access at: https://github.com/lamw/vmware-explore-2024-session-urls (short URL: https://vmwa.re/explore-us-2024)

Enjoy! I definitely will catch up on a few recordings once I have had a chance to recover from the long week at Explore πŸšΆπŸ¦ΆπŸ˜…

Quick Tip - vCenter Server Advanced Settings Reference

08.13.2024 by William Lam // 1 Comment

Simliar to my ESXi Advanced and Kernel Settings reference, I was recently asked about creating one for vCenter Server to capture all the default out of the box advanced settings.

With some automation in place, I deployed all major releases of the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) from 6.7 to 8.0 which is available in this repo: https://github.com/lamw/vc-advanced-settings

For those interested, here is the one-liner PowerCLI code to retrieve all vCenter Server advanced settings:

Get-AdvancedSetting -Entity ($global:DefaultVIServer)

Categories // Automation, vSphere 6.7, vSphere 7.0, vSphere 8.0 Tags // vcenter server appliance, vSphere 6.7, vSphere 7.0, vSphere 8.0
