MS-A2 VCF 9.0 Lab: Configuring Model Store using Harbor for VMware for Private AI Services (PAIS)

09.29.2025 by William Lam // Leave a Comment

In this blog post, we will setup an AI Model Store using Harbor, which will allow us to download Hugging Face models and upload that to our private Harbor registry for use with VMware for Private AI Services (PAIS).

Requirements:

  • VM to install Harbor or an existing Harbor instance
  • Docker Client installed on your local desktop
  • Hugging Face CLI installed on your local desktop (Refer to the official documentation for installation steps)

MS-A2 VCF 9.0 Lab: Configuring Authentik Identity Provider VMware for Private AI Services (PAIS)

09.26.2025 by William Lam // Leave a Comment

In this blog post, we will walk through the configuration of an Identity Provider (IdP) and create an OIDC Public Application Client, which will be used to grant access to a PAIS deployment. As of this blog post, the instructions for setting up the required IdP will be based on Authentik (which I have blogged about before), which is a free and self-hosted IdP solution.

Note: I am also looking to get this working using Keycloak, but currently I am still debugging some issues, so will provide an updated blog post once I can also use Keycloak as an IdP for PAIS.

Requirements:

  • DNS entry for IdP (e.g. auth2.vcf.lab)
  • DNS placeholder entry for the PAIS deployment instance (e.g. pais.vcf.lab)
  • vSphere environment to deploy the IdP

Quick Tip - Retrieving ESXi Host Fingerprint for VCF Installer JSON deployment

09.24.2025 by William Lam // Leave a Comment

When deploying a new VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 Fleet, the VCF Installer will automatically retrieve the fingerprint for each of the ESXi hosts that you have added and have you confirm that they actually match your ESXi hosts.

For automated VCF deployments, you can provide a JSON manifest that fully describes your VCF 9.0 deployment and by default, the VCF Installer will expect the ESXi fingerprints to be included or validation will fail.

So what are these fingerprint values and how do you retrieve them like the VCF Installer?
